A Reddit user has developed a free Chrome extension called PopUpFactCheck. The tool checks the facts being reported while watching YouTube videos in real time, displaying the results on the screen in a matter of seconds.
According to the report, the post about the extension quickly attracted a lot of attention. In just three days, the post has collected thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments.
PopUpFactCheck automatically analyzes English subtitles, identifies verifiable claims, and uses artificial intelligence to compare them with reliable sources. The result is displayed in the form of a colored notification above the video player: green - the information is true, red - false, yellow - the information is misleading.
The extension works both on regular videos and live broadcasts. This feature makes it useful for those who watch news, political speeches, and press conferences.
The author of the project says that the system can distinguish facts from personal opinions, metaphors, and rhetorical expressions. Only verifiable information is analyzed. Fact-checking is carried out based on information from government agencies, news agencies, and fact-checking organizations.
The author also emphasizes that the extension treats all speakers with the same criteria, presenting results based on available evidence, not political views. It is also noted that user data is not collected or sold, and the application is active only on the YouTube platform.
PopUpFactCheck is now available for free download from the Chrome Web Store. The free version has a limited number of daily checks. For more intensive users, a subscription is offered for $ 10 per month. This package removes restrictions and provides additional features.
