Getir CEO dismissed

Batuhan Gültakan, who took over as CEO from Nazım Salur last year, was dismissed from his position today without giving any reason.

As tensions between Getir founder Nazım Salur and the company's largest investor Mubadala escalated, Batuhan Gültakan, who has been CEO of Getir Türkiye since 2022, made a statement regarding his dismissal.

Speaking to Reuters, Gültakan said, "Last week, the Turkish Board of Directors, which consists of the sons of Getir founder Nazım Salur, terminated my position without giving any reason. I did not leave myself," he said.

According to sources, Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala is supporting Batuhan Gültakan in taking over as CEO again.

What happened?

Getir decided to separate its operations under two separate management and groups in June last year, amid growing allegations that its relationship with Mubadala was strained.

Under the resolution, approved by shareholders, Mubadala, the company’s largest investor, would acquire Getir’s food and grocery delivery services with an additional investment of $250 million.

As part of the restructuring plan, Nazim Salur and other Getir founders would take over the management of n11, GetirBiTaksi, GetirAraç, Getirİş and financial products.

However, Nazim Salur posted on the X platform last week, claiming that Mubadala was illegally trying to terminate the agreement regarding the ownership of Getir.

“The UAE state fund Mubadala is illegally terminating the agreement we made to split Getir into two and wants to own our rights. Suddenly, the companies we were supposed to lead have gained value,” Salur said.

While Salur said that legal proceedings had been initiated over the issue, Mubadala had stressed in a statement that Getir was insufficient to fulfill the terms of the agreement signed by the founding team.

Mubadala, which noted that independent members also supported the alternative plan, said it planned to present the new plan to Getir shareholders in the coming weeks.

In September 2024, Mubadala applied to take control of Getir, and that Extraordinary General Meeting was held in Getir's headquarters in the Netherlands. The results of the meeting have not yet been shared with the public.
