Google has acquired part of HTC’s XR division, which develops innovative hardware and software solutions that combine virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) technologies, for $250 million.

HTC XR is best known for its VIVE-branded headsets that deliver mobile VR experiences and headsets for both personal and enterprise users. HTC, which offers products in a wide range of areas such as education, entertainment, business, and healthcare, has embarked on a partnership with Google.

Google has acquired part of HTC’s XR division, which includes HTC’s glasses and accessories team, for $250 million to expand its Android XR platform. Some HTC employees will be transferred to Google as part of the deal.

The tech giant, which wants to create a strong ecosystem for XR devices, has acquired some intellectual property rights from HTC. In addition, HTC will continue to provide innovative products and solutions for users and retain the rights to develop the technology.

It should be noted that Google acquired HTC's smartphone division for $1.1 billion in 2017. Signing its second major deal with the Taiwanese company, Google wants to play a significant role in the virtual reality market, where Meta and Apple are leaders.
