Instagram is introducing a new feature that allows users to share their live location with friends in direct messages (DMs).
Aiming to make social media more fun, Instagram now allows users to share their live location for up to 1 hour in DMs. This feature can only be used in group chats or individual messages.
To prevent users from forgetting to share their location, Instagram has added an indicator with a location icon at the top of the chat. This feature allows participants in concerts, group outings or meetings to find each other more easily and save time on coordination.
In addition to the live location sharing feature, which is currently only available in some countries, Instagram has introduced another innovation. This innovation allows users to personalize their names by assigning nicknames to themselves and their friends in DMs.
To do this, users who tap on the name in the chat header can change the names of their friends to the nickname of their choice from the “Nicknames” section. These nicknames, which only appear in private messages, are not shared in other parts of Instagram.
