Global financial software leader Intuit has signed a strategic, multi-year partnership with AI giant OpenAI valued at over $100 million. This agreement marks a new phase in the financial technology sector, as the company’s most popular tools—TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp—will now be directly integrated into the ChatGPT platform. Users will be able to calculate tax refunds, compare credit options, or manage business finances simply by interacting with a chatbot in natural language, without switching between different apps.
The new system will access users’ financial data with their explicit permission to execute specific tasks. For example, small business owners can send invoice reminders or create marketing messages, while individual users can more easily analyze mortgage and personal loan terms. While OpenAI has previously partnered with companies like Booking.com and Spotify, this integration with Intuit is particularly significant because it directly affects people’s financial decisions and money, demanding higher responsibility.
The risk of AI providing inaccurate or fabricated information (“hallucinations”) is a serious concern in financial contexts. Intuit officials have stated that they will mitigate these risks using the company’s extensive, domain-specific data and multi-layer verification mechanisms. While the company guarantees the accuracy of its traditional products, such as TurboTax, exact legal responsibility for any AI-generated errors has not yet been clarified.
This partnership represents a logical extension of Intuit’s AI strategy. The company will leverage OpenAI’s advanced models not only for customer-facing applications but also to optimize internal workflows via ChatGPT Enterprise. This strategic move gives Intuit access to ChatGPT’s massive user base, enabling the company to introduce its financial tools to new customer segments.
