In response to pressure from the European Union, Apple may allow third-party apps to be installed on iPhones next year. Currently, Apple only allows installing apps through the App Store. If allowed, iPhone users will be able to download apps from other app stores.
According to Apple analyst Mark Gurman, the possibility of Apple allowing the installation of applications from external sources may be possible in the first half of 2024. Previously, installing apps outside of the App Store was only possible through Jailbreak.
But this will also bring certain difficulties for Apple. First, because apps can be installed outside of the App Store, Apple can lose commission revenues of 15% to 30%. Second, Apple allows unattended installation, thereby creating the risk of a security vulnerability.
However, Apple is expected to take some measures to ensure user privacy and security while addressing this situation. According to Gurman, Apple will provide a "highly regulated system" for developers to submit applications from places outside the App Store.
