OpenAI acquired Crossing Minds and transferred its founding team

OpenAI has acquired Crossing Minds, a company specializing in AI-powered personalized recommendation systems for e-commerce, and integrated its founding team into its own. The financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but Crossing Minds has confirmed that other members of its team will also join OpenAI.

Founded in 2016 by Emile Contal, Alexandre Robicquet, and Sebastian Thrun, San Francisco-based Crossing Minds offers data-driven personalized recommendations for e-commerce platforms. To date, the company has raised over $13.5 million in funding, with notable investors including Index Ventures, Shopify, Plug and Play, and Radical Ventures.

In a blog post, Crossing Minds stated that joining OpenAI aligns their work and values with a mission they deeply respect: ensuring that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. The team is excited to contribute their experience and energy to a group shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

This acquisition provides OpenAI access to some of the most advanced real-time data and recommendation systems available and is expected to enhance the personalization capabilities of its existing tools. The transfer of Crossing Minds supports OpenAI’s long-term strategic goals in AGI development.

Previously, Crossing Minds collaborated with companies such as Chanel, Udacity, Anthropic, and Intuit. Following the acquisition, the company announced that it will cease operations and will no longer accept new customers.
