Meta Settles Trump's Lawsuit for $25 Million

Meta has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump against the company. The lawsuit was related to the suspension of Trump’s social media accounts following the Capitol building attack on January 6, 2021. The information is based on three sources.

This settlement is the latest example of large companies resolving legal disputes with Trump after he indicated that he would take action against his critics and rivals. At the same time, many technology companies, including Meta and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg, are attempting to improve their relationships with the new Trump administration.

People familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, have revealed details of the agreement. Two of them say that $22 million of the $25 million will go to a nonprofit organization that will fund Trump's future presidential library. The remaining amount will be divided between legal fees and other claimants.

The agreement was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

In November of last year, Zuckerberg visited Trump’s private club in Florida and attempted to improve relations. During the meeting, Trump raised the lawsuit and suggested resolving the issue. This led to two months of negotiations between the two parties.
