Microsoft Announces partnership with Anthropic

Microsoft has begun using technology from the company Anthropic for certain artificial intelligence features in its Office 365 programs. This move indicates Microsoft’s intention to reduce its reliance on OpenAI and expand its AI partnerships.

Microsoft’s decision comes at a time of increasing tension between the two companies, as OpenAI develops independent infrastructure projects and prepares a competitor for LinkedIn.

According to The Information, Microsoft’s collaboration with Anthropic is not merely a negotiation tactic. Microsoft executives believe that Anthropic’s latest models, particularly Claude Sonnet 4, deliver better results than OpenAI’s models for certain tasks, such as creating PowerPoint presentations.

Both companies are continuing on their respective paths. Microsoft is already developing its own AI models, MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview. At the same time, OpenAI plans to mass-produce its own AI chips by 2026 to become more independent from Microsoft.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated that they remain committed to a long-term partnership with OpenAI, which continues to be their primary collaborator.
