Microsoft has officially announced that Copilot will stop functioning on the WhatsApp platform starting January 15. After this date, users will no longer be able to interact with the bot via the messenger. To continue using the service, users will need to switch to Copilot’s standalone mobile app or website.
This decision is linked to changes in Meta’s platform policies. Under the new rules, WhatsApp now restricts general-purpose AI chatbots from providing mass services via the business API. This restriction applies not only to Microsoft but also to OpenAI and other similar technology companies.
Users should note that existing conversations on WhatsApp will not be automatically transferred to Microsoft’s platform. The company advises users who wish to retain their old messages to use WhatsApp’s export function before January 15 to archive their data.
