Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings has announced that he is joining the board of directors of Anthropic, one of the leading competitors to OpenAI in the field of artificial intelligence. Hastings brings extensive experience as a seasoned tech executive, having served on the boards of major companies such as Netflix, Microsoft, Bloomberg, and Meta. His expertise is expected to play a significant role in helping Anthropic grow from a startup into a major company.
Anthropic stated that Hastings’ appointment was made by the company’s Long-Term Benefit Trust, an independent body within Anthropic’s corporate governance structure. This trust is designed to be financially disinterested and aims to ensure that Anthropic develops AI technologies for the long-term benefit of humanity. The Long-Term Benefit Trust has the authority to appoint and remove board members.
With this appointment, Reed Hastings joins Anthropic’s existing board members, including co-founders Dario and Daniela Amodei, investor Yasmin Razavi, and Jay Kreps, CEO of Confluent.
