Following news of a possible ban on TikTok in the US, users have started downloading alternative Chinese apps. Currently, RedNote (known as Xiaohongshu in China) is one of the most downloaded apps on the App Store and Google Play.
TikTok users are simply switching to other Chinese apps instead of switching platforms. The TikTok-like RedNote app has been gaining popularity in recent days, and this trend has been strengthened by the promotion of TikTok content creators. The RedNote app imitates TikTok's style, but most of the interface is in Chinese. Although the app does not offer any special innovations in terms of usability, it loads quickly as a TikTok replacement.
At the same time, other short video apps are also gaining popularity: Lemon8, introduced by TikTok's creators, Flip, created by developers from Los Angeles, as well as ReelShort.
Although there is discussion about the banning of TikTok in the US, there are opinions that question the effectiveness of this step. It is likely that other Chinese-origin apps will take TikTok's place. Therefore, the possibility of banning all short video apps of Chinese origin in the US in the future may be a topic of discussion.
