Nvidia unveils its first Blackwell chip

Nvidia has unveiled the first Blackwell chip wafer produced in the U.S. This milestone was achieved through a collaboration between Nvidia and TSMC at TSMC’s new facility in Arizona. Amid rapidly growing demand for AI chips, the significance of this development lies in strengthening U.S. technological security and domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Nvidia states that this move serves two critical purposes: First, Supply Chain Security – shifting production to the U.S. (onshoring) reduces the country’s reliance on foreign chips and makes the supply chain more reliable. Second, AI Leadership – it helps ensure that the most important AI technologies, which turn data into intelligence, are developed within the U.S., maintaining American leadership in the field.

At TSMC’s Arizona plant, not only Blackwell but also advanced chips for AI systems, telecommunications, and supercomputers will be produced. This includes 2, 3, and 4-nanometer technologies, as well as next-generation A16 chips.

It’s worth noting that the strong recent demand for AI has led technology companies to sign multi-billion-dollar contracts with chip manufacturers such as Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom to build large data centers. Against this backdrop, TSMC has reported record profits and raised its revenue forecasts for the year.
