OpenAI has acquired Statsig, a startup focused on product testing. This deal is considered one of the largest acquisitions in the company’s history and aims to strengthen OpenAI’s operations in software development.
Under the agreement, Statsig’s founder, Vijaye Raji, will now serve as OpenAI’s new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for applications. He will lead the engineering teams behind products such as ChatGPT and Codex.
This change is not limited to the acquisition alone but has also led to updates in OpenAI’s leadership. The company’s current Chief Product Officer, Kevin Weil, will now head a new team that uses artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific discoveries. Engineering Director Srinivas Narayanan has transitioned to a new role responsible for managing relationships with business clients.
It is worth noting that all Statsig employees will join OpenAI, although the company will continue to operate independently. This acquisition demonstrates OpenAI’s intention to accelerate product development while expanding its organizational structure.
