This initiative aims to significantly expand OpenAI’s operations in the Middle East, and an official agreement is expected to be announced in the coming days.
OpenAI has maintained a collaborative relationship with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for several years. In 2023, the company partnered with Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence firm G42. Notably, that same year, G42 received a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft, one of OpenAI’s primary backers.
Additionally, MGX—a UAE investment group linked to the royal family—participated in OpenAI’s latest funding round and plans to support the company’s Stargate AI infrastructure project.
OpenAI is pursuing this initiative as part of its broader goal to expand international AI infrastructure and promote the concept of “democratic AI.” Through its recently launched “OpenAI for Countries” program, the company seeks to establish local infrastructure in various nations to ensure more accessible and efficient deployment of AI technologies.
This step not only enhances OpenAI’s technological capabilities but also strengthens strategic and reliable partnerships across the region. Establishing data centers will contribute to greater technical stability and play a key role in advancing artificial intelligence throughout the Middle East.
