Pinterest CEO: We plan to create a website powered by artificial intelligence

Pinterest CEO Bill Ready said during the company’s Q2 2025 earnings report that Pinterest is already using artificial intelligence to assist users with shopping. However, fully autonomous AI agents shopping on behalf of users are still a long way off.

Ready explained that while some people think AI will do all the shopping for them, it will take a long time before users are ready to hand over full control. People still want to make their own decisions, and AI-driven automation is likely to be limited to very simple tasks for now.

Pinterest proactively provides users with recommendations tailored to their tastes and interests. Users say, “Pinterest just gets me,” because the app offers ideas and products that match their style—like a personal shopping assistant.

Ready also noted that we are living in a time of rapid advancements in AI technology. Pinterest uses AI-powered models that combine images and text, visual search features, and tools to improve advertising efficiency.

However, there are user concerns about the rise of low-quality AI-generated content on Pinterest. To address this, the company added labels for AI-generated images and gave users the option to filter out such content. There have also been issues with mass user bans, which Pinterest attributes to technical errors.

Financially, Pinterest reported $998 million in revenue for Q2 2025. However, earnings per share were slightly below expectations. The company also noted that most of its users are young, with the number of male users nearly doubling compared to the previous year.
