German software giant SAP has announced the acquisition of data platform provider Dremio. While financial details of the deal were not disclosed, the move is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of SAP’s Business Data Cloud platform to handle real-time analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. This will allow customers to more effectively transform raw data into managed AI solutions.
The company’s chief technology officer, Philipp Herzig, said that the main obstacle to enterprise AI applications is the lack of ready data. According to him, Dremio’s high-performance “data lakehouse” platform will eliminate this problem and allow AI-based applications, especially AI agents, to run more efficiently.
In addition, SAP announced the acquisition of Prior Labs, a company that provides “Tabular Foundation Models” for structured data. The company plans to invest more than 1 billion euros in this area over the next four years, transforming Prior Labs into a leading AI lab on a global scale.
According to experts, these acquisitions clearly demonstrate SAP's ambitions in the field of artificial intelligence. At the same time, the integration of advanced data processing technologies can positively affect future business growth by increasing the company's product competitiveness.
