OpenAI has launched the popular music recognition service Shazam as a mini-app within ChatGPT. The new feature allows users to identify music playing through a chatbot.
Users can send a request in the chat or by voice, such as “Shazam, what song is playing?”. After that, the system offers to activate the microphone and identify the music playing. The mini-app can also be opened within the chat via @Shazam.
A Shazam account is not required to use the service. However, to save the recognized song to your personal library, you need to connect the account. The feature is available to all users, including free users, in the web version of ChatGPT and in the iOS and Android applications.
OpenAI added mini-apps to ChatGPT in October 2025. The platform already has integrations with services such as Booking.com, Adobe, Canva, Coursera, and Spotify.
In December 2025, users were given the opportunity to link their Apple Music account to ChatGPT. Currently, it is not possible to listen to music in full within the chatbot, but users can find songs, albums, and artists and create playlists with text queries.
