Music platform Spotify continues to expand its scope. After podcasts, audiobooks, videos, and even physical books, the company has now announced that it is adding fitness content to its app.
Under the new strategy, Spotify aims to become more than just a platform that provides motivational music for workouts, but also a center where users can directly exercise. To this end, the company has partnered with a number of well-known health and fitness creators, as well as exercise equipment manufacturer Peloton.
Through the new “Fitness” section, users will be able to access a variety of workout programs. This section is presented as a special hub within the app or can be found by typing “fitness” in the search section. The content will be available on both mobile, desktop, and TV apps.
Initially, both free and Premium users will be able to enjoy dozens of playlists and training videos. This content includes programs from popular creators like Yoga With Kassandra, Caitlin K’eli Yoga, Sweaty Studio, Chloe Ting, and others.
Additionally, in a partnership with Peloton, Premium users will be able to access over 1,400 ad-free, on-demand workouts in select markets, including strength training, cardio, yoga, meditation, and running, and no special equipment is required.
Currently, the workout content is primarily available in English, with some options available in Spanish and German. Users can also download the content for offline use.
The company says the move is based on user behavior: About 70% of Premium subscribers exercise at least once a month, and there are more than 150 million fitness playlists on the platform. In addition, the demand for workout music has also increased since the launch of the AI-powered “Prompted Playlist” feature.
However, for some users, the app’s increasing number of features can be a negative. Spotify recently introduced the ability to disable videos in the app, addressing these concerns.
