Starlink has officially started operating in Kazakhstan

Kazakh citizens can now legally buy, use, and register Starlink equipment. This was announced on Facebook by the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry, Caslan Madiyev.

The minister stated that over the past year, negotiations had been held between Starlink, government agencies, and regulators, and today Starlink has officially added Kazakhstan to its service coverage map.

The official status means that citizens will be able to obtain and use Starlink equipment in accordance with the law. Connection to the satellite internet will be carried out via Starlink’s user equipment.

It had been previously announced that official sales of Starlink in Kazakhstan would begin in the third quarter of this year. In June, the ministry and Starlink signed an agreement to ensure the company complies with Kazakh laws when providing satellite internet in the country.

It is worth noting that in October 2023, 10 rural schools were connected to high-speed internet using Starlink in a pilot program. In February 2024, 500 units of Starlink equipment were delivered to the country. Connecting schools to Starlink internet costs the state budget approximately $5 million.
