Anthropic has brought Humanloop’s core founding team and several engineers into its ranks. It should be noted that Humanloop’s intellectual property was not acquired; only the founders and employees were transferred.
Humanloop was founded in 2020 as a startup out of University College London and later participated in the Y Combinator and Fuse Incubator programs. The company raised a total of $7.91 million in two investment rounds. Its clients included Duolingo, Gusto, and Vanta.
Last month, Humanloop informed its clients that it would cease operations and prepare for an acquisition process. Former CEO Raza Habib stated that their goal has always been to create safe and effective AI applications, which aligns fully with Anthropic’s vision in the field.
Anthropic’s API product lead, Brad Abrams, added that Humanloop’s experience will be highly valuable in the company’s efforts to develop safe and useful AI systems.
This transfer coincides with Anthropic’s period of offering corporate clients advanced features such as longer context windows. Additionally, the company has reached an agreement with the U.S. government to provide AI services to federal agencies for only $1 per agency during the first year.
