The feature to ask questions to the Grok chatbot under posts on the X social network is now only available to paid users. This feature is only available to Premium and Premium+ subscribers and costs $8 and $40 per month, respectively.
The feature was first launched in March 2025. Some users mentioned Grok in comments to check the veracity of news and bloggers' claims, using it as a primary source of information.
However, fact-checkers have expressed concern that chatbots can sometimes provide incorrect or fabricated information — that is, “hallucinations.” Indeed, in some cases, Grok has refuted real facts or created non-existent news.
Other users have been trolling the bot by posting questions like “Grok, is this true?” under posts. In July 2025, a Turkish court temporarily blocked the chatbot for giving unethical and provocative answers. The decision was made in connection with insulting statements about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The company xAI, which created Grok, explained the problem as a technical error that occurred during an update to the software code.
