OpenAI has announced that the collaborative “Projects” feature in ChatGPT is now accessible to all users. With this update, both free users and Plus/Pro subscribers can make any project either fully public or invite specific individuals to collaborate using the email address associated with their ChatGPT account.
Projects serve as a dedicated space where users can organize all files and chatbot conversations related to a particular task or topic in one folder. In collaborative mode, every invited participant can upload documents, expand the chatbot’s knowledge base and custom instructions, and submit new prompts—making teamwork significantly more efficient.
The project owner can grant invited users full editing rights or limit their participation to chat-only interactions. All participants’ messages are displayed separately within the system, enhancing transparency.
The Projects section was first introduced to ChatGPT in 2024. Although the feature became free for all users starting in September 2025, sharing projects with others was previously limited to Business plan subscribers paying $25 per month. With OpenAI’s latest update, collaborative access to Projects is now available to a much broader audience, greatly increasing the platform’s value for teamwork and productivity.
