TikTok introduces new "TikTok AI Alive" feature that turns still images into videos. This feature allows users to transform static photos into video format using AI technology. The feature is only available through TikTok's Story Camera and enables the creation of short videos with "movement," "atmospheric," and "creative effects" added to the images.
For example, if your photo features a sky, clouds, and the ocean, TikTok can convert the photo into a video where the sky gradually changes color, the clouds move, and the sound of waves can be heard. Alternatively, you can animate a group selfie that highlights gestures and expressions.
This new feature follows TikTok's introduction of an in-app text-to-image AI generator in 2021. While Instagram and Snapchat also offer text-to-image features, TikTok now takes it a step further by allowing users to create videos from images. Snapchat has also announced that it will soon offer the ability to generate AI videos from images.
AI Alive videos will be labeled with an "AI-generated" tag to notify users that the content was created using AI. Additionally, these videos will include C2PA metadata, a technical standard that helps identify AI-generated content, even if the video is downloaded and shared outside TikTok.
In a blog post, TikTok mentioned, "We are always building with safety in mind, and this is no different for our AI innovations. As this technology opens up new forms of creative expression, it undergoes multiple trust and safety checks to protect our community." TikTok also allows users to report videos they believe violate the platform's rules, and a final safety check is performed before an AI Alive video is shared.
To create an AI Alive video, TikTok users can open the Story Camera and click the blue plus sign at the top of the Inbox or Profile page. From there, they can choose a photo from their Story Album and see the AI Alive icon on the right side of the editing toolbar.
This new feature highlights TikTok's innovative approach to AI and its commitment to offering users new creative possibilities.
