Turkey has unveiled its most powerful non-nuclear aerial bombs — "Gazap" and "Hayalet" — developed by the Research Center of the Ministry of National Defense. Both bombs, each weighing approximately 970 kilograms, were showcased for the first time at the “IDEF-2025 International Defense Industry Fair” held in Istanbul, according to Daily Sabah.
The “Gazap” bomb disperses more than 10 explosive fragments within a 1-meter radius and has a destructive impact three times greater than similar previous models. It is designed for F-16 fighter jets. According to officials, its strike power and explosion efficiency have been enhanced, certification has been completed, and the bomb is fully ready for operational use.
Another heavy bomb presented at the exhibition, the NEB-2 “Hayalet,” is designed for underground targets, particularly concrete bunkers and shelters. Unlike standard U.S. bombs, which can penetrate 2.4 meters of concrete, the “Hayalet” is capable of breaking through 7 meters of depth and much stronger material.
During testing, the NEB-2 bomb was dropped on an island, creating a 90-meter-deep crater, triggering landslides, gas leaks, and the fragmentation of large rocks. Typically, explosions last around 25 milliseconds, but the “Hayalet” extends this to 240 milliseconds, further enhancing its explosive impact.
The development of these new bombs marks a significant advancement in Turkey’s defense industry and is expected to considerably strengthen the country’s military capabilities.
