Uzbekistan launches system to block fraudulent calls from abroad

Uzbekistan has launched a new blocking system to prevent fraudulent calls from abroad. The information was confirmed by the press service of the country's Ministry of Digital Technologies.

In October, Beeline Uzbekistan, Mobiuz and Ucell operators announced the launch of anti-spoofing technology. This system prevents calls from fake numbers, protects users from phone fraud and theft of personal information. According to the operators, the new function is activated free of charge for all subscribers and does not require installing additional software.

The system checks the number of calls: if a call from abroad is presented as a local number with the prefix +998, but does not belong to a real subscriber, such calls are automatically blocked.

According to Beeline, fraudsters operate according to two main schemes:

calling from abroad, pretending to be a local number;
calling using the name of a local number in roaming. In these cases, the system checks the network where the number is located in real time and blocks the call if a mismatch is detected.
“Uztelecom” states that it began implementing anti-spoofing technology in July of this year to protect subscribers from telephone fraud and unauthorized use of numbers.

It should be noted that previously, a number of business entities in Uzbekistan were also informed about cases of sending fake letters on behalf of the Ministry of Justice.
