WeTravel has acquired Tourwriter, a New Zealand-based software company specializing in tailor-made and luxury travel operations, as part of its strategy to build an AI-powered operating system for the multi-day travel industry.
WeTravel CEO Ted Clements said the acquisition is another major step in the company’s efforts to simplify the daily operations of travel businesses. Last year, WeTravel raised $92 million in Series C funding, stating that the investment would support the development of an AI-enabled operating system for multi-day travel.
Tourwriter has been developing software for luxury and tailor-made tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs) for more than 20 years. Its platform supports key back-office processes, including digital itineraries, supplier management, pricing and quoting, margins and commissions, invoicing, accounting integrations, supplier communications and analytics.
The company’s modern cloud-based platform was developed after Tourwriter began transitioning its software to the cloud in 2020. According to WeTravel, Tourwriter customers have sold more than $1 billion worth of trips over the past two years, with the platform now used by businesses across 35 countries.
WeTravel plans to combine Tourwriter’s expertise in bespoke travel operations with its own payment infrastructure and AI capabilities. The goal is to automate time-consuming administrative tasks and allow travel operators to manage more of their business from a single platform.
What will change for Tourwriter customers?
WeTravel says Tourwriter customers will continue using the same product, team and support services following the acquisition.
Tourwriter will continue operating as an independent platform, while founder Glenn will remain in charge of the company. The nearly 30-person team will also remain in place across New Zealand, London and other locations around the world.
WeTravel plans to invest in the platform and introduce optional cost-saving payment features and AI-powered tools for Tourwriter customers.
The acquisition comes as demand for tailor-made and luxury travel continues to grow. According to WeTravel’s 2026 Annual Trends Report, 56% of travel operators reported increased interest in custom luxury bookings in 2025.
WeTravel’s own booking data also shows that established custom and luxury travel organizers on its platform increased bookings by 16% year-over-year in the first half of 2026, while their booking value increased by 31%.
The company believes that combining AI, integrated payments and software specifically designed for bespoke travel could help reduce the operational complexity behind custom trips while enabling travel businesses to scale more efficiently.
