At the International Investment Forum 2025 (TIFF 2025) held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, a significant technological initiative for the region was announced. The UAE-based company Data Volt has launched a €185 million pilot project to build high-density data centers powered entirely by sustainable energy in Uzbekistan.
The company’s CEO, Rajit Nanda, stated that this project is designed not only to meet today’s needs but also to build a new generation of digital infrastructure that addresses the future demands of artificial intelligence (AI). “We are not just bringing the latest technology; we are building the digital future with sustainability in mind,” Nanda said.
One of the main advantages of the project is its energy model:
- Solar energy during the day,
- Wind energy at night,
- And powerful battery systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply during transition periods.
This approach reduces operating costs while significantly minimizing carbon emissions.
Nanda warned that if sustainable measures are not taken in this sector, the carbon footprint of data centers could reach the level of the aviation industry within the next decade. “There is no time to wait,” he added.
A €4.6 Billion Total Investment Plan
Large-scale data centers are planned not only in Tashkent but also in Bukhara and New Tashkent — a futuristic smart city currently under development. Overall, Data Volt plans to invest over €4.6 billion in Uzbekistan’s economy over the next five years.
Unlike traditional data centers, the new generation centers will consume up to 1,000 kilowatts per rack, optimized to support heavy AI workloads. Additionally, advanced air and liquid cooling systems will ensure stability and environmental efficiency for the high-density servers.
Uzbekistan’s Digital Rise
In recent years, Uzbekistan has made rapid progress in technology thanks to:
- A young and tech-savvy population,
- Open policies encouraging foreign investment,
- Government programs focused on digital reforms,
transforming the country into a testing ground for technological innovation in Central Asia.
The head of Data Volt said, “Uzbekistan has strong local potential in energy and digital sectors, making it a natural leader for the region’s digital revolution.”
Infrastructure for Artificial Intelligence — A Global Perspective
This project is not only significant for Uzbekistan but also globally. As AI becomes an integral part of everyday life, the demand for real-time, green, and scalable technological solutions is rapidly increasing. The data centers built by Data Volt will be among the first to meet these demands.
The project showcased at TIFF 2025 demonstrated that the digital future is arriving faster than expected—and building that future sustainably has already begun.
