Companies and organizations worldwide purchased around 7,000 humanoid robots for industrial and professional applications in 2025.
According to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the figure remains relatively small compared with the billions of dollars being invested in humanoid robotics. By comparison, around 542,000 industrial robots were installed worldwide in 2024, while sales of service robots reached approximately 199,000 units.
The IFR defines a humanoid robot as a machine with a human-like appearance that can operate autonomously in environments designed for people. Having legs is not a requirement.
According to the federation, many of the humanoid robots sold in 2025 were not yet used directly for production. Research centers and companies primarily purchased them for experiments, data collection and training and improving artificial intelligence systems.
The IFR is expected to release its full 2025 statistics on industrial and service robots on September 24.
