73,000 jobs lost in the technology sector

The scale of layoffs in the technology sector continues to grow in 2026. According to the Layoffs.fyi platform, a total of more than 73 thousand jobs were cut in 95 companies during the year. For comparison, this figure was more than 124 thousand in 2025.

The latest wave of layoffs is mainly associated with the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies and structural changes in companies. Meta plans to lay off about 10 percent of its global workforce, or about 8 thousand employees, starting in May.

At the same time, Snap Inc., the owner of Snapchat, announced that it would eliminate 1,000 jobs and more than 300 open vacancies. Oracle, meanwhile, plans to lay off about 30 thousand employees globally, 10 thousand of which are located in India.

In addition, Australian software company Atlassian has cut about 10 percent of its workforce, or 1,600 people.

Experts say the rapid development of artificial intelligence and automation processes continues to have a serious impact on the job market in the technology sector.
