Torben Severson, who spent 17 years at Amazon in various leadership roles, will continue his career at OpenAI. He will serve as the company’s Vice President of Global Business Development.
Severson, who left Amazon in October, announced the move on his LinkedIn account. He emphasized that joining OpenAI during such a pivotal moment in the tech industry was an opportunity he could not miss.
He dedicated most of his career at Amazon to business development and building strategic partnerships with other companies. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff to Doug Herrington, Amazon’s CEO of Worldwide Retail.
It is worth noting that the Chief of Staff role is considered one of the most critical positions within the company. The individual in this role participates in nearly all key meetings with the CEO and plays an important part in strategic decision-making. Severson will now be responsible for building external partnerships and shaping overall strategy at OpenAI.
