Anthropic launches audio mode for Claude Code

Anthropic has added voice mode to its Claude Code tool for programmers. This means that it will now be possible to give commands by simply speaking, without using the keyboard, while writing code.

The company's engineer Thariq Shihipar said that the new feature is currently active for about 5% of users. It will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

How does it work?

To activate voice mode, you need to type /voice. Then you say the desired command by voice. For example:
“Refactor authentication middleware” — and the system executes it.

At the moment, detailed information about the limitations of this feature has not been provided. It is also not known whether it was developed in conjunction with a third-party voice technology company, for example, ElevenLabs.

Note that Anthropic also introduced voice control for the regular Claude chatbot last year.

Competition is fierce

There is a lot of competition in the market for AI-powered code assistants. Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot service is also in the works, as are companies like Google and OpenAI.

Nevertheless, Claude Code is currently one of the most widely used tools. In February 2026, the company announced that the service’s annual revenue rate had exceeded $2.5 billion and the number of users was growing rapidly.

In short, Anthropic is transitioning to the era of conversational coding to make programmers’ work easier and faster.
