Bentley is preparing to launch its first all-electric car. The British manufacturer has officially announced that its new electric SUV will be called the Torcal. The company has also released the first teaser image of the model. The full presentation of the car will take place on September 23.
According to the company, the name Torcal is taken from the El Torcal de Antequera nature reserve in the Andalusia region of Spain. This area is known for its huge limestone cliffs, unusual rock formations and caves. Bentley has previously named its models after natural places. These include the Bentayga, Bacalar and Batur.
Bentley says that the name Torcal also refers to the Latin word torquere, which means “to twist” or “to twist”. It is from this word that the term torque (torque) used in modern English was derived.
The released teaser image shows the rear of the car. Although the image does not give much information about the model, it confirms that it will have an SUV body. In addition, the thin LED taillights reminiscent of a diamond pattern and the black Bentley logo are striking.
According to preliminary information, the Torcal will be more compact than the current gasoline-powered Bentayga model. The new electric SUV is expected to share the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne Electric. It is reported that the car will be equipped with two electric motors, an all-wheel drive system and an 800-volt electrical architecture. This system is expected to support fast charging at a power of 400 kW.
