The owner of the famous “Bored Ape” NFT suffered a financial loss by selling it for far less than the price he paid years ago.
Ryder Ripps revealed on social media that he sold “Bored Ape #3707”, which he had purchased for $425,000, for only $37,000. This amounts to an approximate $400,000 loss, and he described the experience as feeling like “a hole in my chest.”
He continued his story, saying that when he bought the NFT three years ago, he believed it was not just an “image” but a “ticket to culture and the future of the internet.” However, reality turned out to be very different. Recently, he recalled sitting in a restaurant in New Jersey, watching a boring game with three people wearing faded BAYC apparel. According to him, at one point he suggested a “Monkey handshake,” but no one knew what it was, which made him feel like everything was over.
Ripps said that this experience cost him not only money but also years and hope. He referred to his NFT as “just a monkey picture that cost me a house.” This story underscores that concepts like “community” and “utility” in the NFT market do not always carry real value.
