Broadcom and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) are in talks to acquire parts of Intel. Broadcom plans to acquire Intel's chip design and marketing division but is looking for a partner for Intel’s manufacturing business. On the other hand, TSMC is considering acquiring some or all of Intel's chip plants, either independently or with a group of investors.
So far, all discussions are in the preliminary stages, and no official proposal has been made to Intel. Reports suggest that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration encouraged TSMC to take this step. However, a White House official mentioned that the U.S. government may not support the sale of Intel’s factories to foreign companies.
Intel’s struggles have made it a target for rival chipmakers. In fact, in September, Qualcomm approached Intel with a takeover offer.
These developments could lead to significant changes in the semiconductor industry.
