Broadcom unveils AI-powered video translation chip

Currently, AI-powered video dubbing requires a stable internet connection. However, a new technology developed jointly by Broadcom and CAMB.AI aims to change that entirely. Thanks to the newly designed chip, both translation and voice dubbing can now be performed directly on the user’s device, without the need for an internet connection and in real time.

The main advantage of this approach lies in its ultra-low latency and enhanced privacy, as all data processing happens locally on the device. According to its creators, the chip can translate content into over 150 languages and uses the same high-quality voice models employed by major organizations such as NASCAR and Eurovision.

During testing, a scene from the animated film Ratatouille was showcased. In its current form, the system relies on preloaded subtitles and does not yet replicate the original voice tones of characters. How effectively the chip will handle real-time live audio translation remains to be seen, as it is still in the testing phase.

Nonetheless, experts believe that once integrated into smartphones and televisions, this technology could eliminate language barriers in global communication.
