The scandal surrounding the gold-colored T1 smartphone offered by Trump Mobile, a company owned by the family of US President Donald Trump, is growing. According to reports, about 590,000 people have so far ordered the phone, which will be released in June 2025 and advertised as “Made in the USA”. Although buyers paid a total of $59 million in deposits to obtain the device, more than a year has passed, none of the phones have been delivered to customers.
Although the company initially announced that the device would be presented in the summer of 2025, the date was changed several times. Later, the delivery date was completely removed from the official website. According to an investigation by US media, customers who placed orders have received almost no official information from the company.
Trump Mobile has updated its terms and conditions in recent months, stating that the deposit payment does not necessarily mean that the product will be released and that the company reserves the right not to produce the device. It was also noted that no guarantees are given regarding the release, production or delivery of the product.
Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and a group of politicians have filed a lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission, demanding an investigation into the company’s possible “deceptive sales” practices.
It also emerged that the phone, which the company had previously advertised as “Made in the USA,” will not actually be manufactured in the United States. Company executives have confirmed that only the final assembly phase will be carried out in Miami, with the main production taking place overseas. Currently, Trump Mobile sells refurbished iPhones and Samsung phones, which are mainly made in China.
