BYD, China’s largest electric car maker, has filed a lawsuit in the US Court of International Trade over import tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration in the US. According to Bloomberg, the company is demanding a refund of the funds it paid under these tariffs.
BYD’s US units argue that the presidential orders that justified the tariffs are legally invalid and that the tariffs should therefore be considered illegal.
The company said that although it produces electric buses and trucks in the US, it has paid significant duties on imported materials. At the same time, BYD does not sell passenger cars in the US market due to high tariffs and regulatory barriers.
