ByteDance will invest $23 billion in artificial intelligence

ByteDance plans to increase its investment in artificial intelligence projects to $23 billion. According to the Financial Times, this amount is approximately 6.5% higher than the company’s spending in the current year. The investment aims to strengthen ByteDance’s position in the global AI race.

Nearly half of the allocated funds will be spent on purchasing high-performance processors needed to run AI models. Currently, one of ByteDance’s biggest challenges is the difficulty of obtaining Nvidia chips due to U.S. export restrictions. If official approval is granted, the company is ready to purchase 20,000 of Nvidia’s less powerful H200 processors designed for the Chinese market. Should access to processors improve, ByteDance’s spending in 2026 is expected to increase further.

Despite this, ByteDance’s expenditures remain relatively modest compared to U.S. technology giants. For example, in 2025, companies such as Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Google collectively invested more than $300 billion in artificial intelligence and data centers. Nevertheless, ByteDance remains ambitious about expanding and strengthening its technological infrastructure.
