Vince Zampella, one of the creators of the Call of Duty game series and head of Respawn Entertainment, has passed away at the age of 55 in a car accident in California. The incident occurred on Sunday in a mountainous area near Los Angeles. According to preliminary reports, the Ferrari Zampella was driving went out of control, collided with a concrete barrier, and caught fire.

Electronic Arts (EA) issued an official statement expressing condolences to Zampella’s family and loved ones. Company representatives described him as a visionary creator who shaped the modern gaming industry and inspired millions of players. They noted that his legacy will continue to play an important role for future generations.

Zampella was considered one of the most influential figures in the gaming world. As one of the founders of Infinity Ward, he laid the foundation for the Call of Duty series, and later established Respawn Entertainment, leading successful projects such as Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi. He was also overseeing the development of Battlefield 6, which was released in October 2025.
