Now, vector graphics, photo editing, and page design tools are combined into a single Affinity app.
Canva acquired the Affinity brand (Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher) in March 2024. In the new version, these apps are integrated with Canva AI artificial intelligence capabilities — for example, background removal, image enhancement, generative fill, etc. Canva said that user-created works will not be used to train neural networks. Ready-made projects can be exported to the Canva platform with a few clicks.
Most importantly, Canva noted that access to Affinity tools is now completely free, but a Canva Premium account is required to take advantage of Canva AI features. Users who purchased previous versions will be able to continue using them, but it is not known whether they will be updated.
The application is available for macOS and Windows, and an iPad version is also planned for release in the future.
In addition, Canva introduced an updated video editor called Video 2.0. The company says it's faster and more intuitive than before, with a new timeline editing system, an AI tool called Magic Video (which creates videos for social networks based on text and short videos), a library of "trending" templates, and automatic effects.
