Construction of over 1,800 data center projects in Texas halted for inspection

An audit of more than 1,800 data center projects in the US state of Texas has begun. The state's governor, Greg Abbott, has ordered a detailed review of all projects that have applied for connection to the power grid.

According to the report, about 90% of the projects in the queue are data centers. Their total planned capacity is more than 474 gigawatts, which is more than five times the maximum peak demand recorded so far by the Texas power grid.

Construction of most of the projects has not yet begun. There are currently at least 335 operating data centers in Texas, with an additional 248 new centers planned to be built.

As part of the audit, operators are required to provide information on tax breaks, energy and water consumption, cooling systems, measures to mitigate the impact on local communities, and the ownership structure of the facilities. It has not yet been announced how long the inspections will last.
