A specialized vessel has departed the port of Baku and begun laying the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line in the direction of the port of Aktau, Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, the laying of the submarine cable is planned to be completed within 15-20 days under favorable weather conditions.
The armored optical cable, previously manufactured and tested in China, was delivered to the port of Kuryk, and then transported to Baku. Currently, the cable is fully loaded into a special reservoir on board the cable-laying vessel.
A specialized vessel with a displacement of more than 20 thousand tons, equipped with a dynamic positioning system, was involved in the work. There are 70 crew members, technical control specialists and a representative of "Kazakhtelecom" on board.
According to the information, the project is being implemented by the joint venture "CaspiLink B.V.", established by the Kazakh "Kazakhtelecom" JSC and the Azerbaijani company "AzerTelecom International". The Kazakh and Azerbaijani parts of the cable have already been connected, and all optical lines have been tested.
Before starting offshore work, experts conducted engineering surveys, determined a route that bypasses anchorages and military training areas, and also obtained environmental permits.
The Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2026.
