Tesla has announced that it has produced its 10 millionth electric car, a milestone that comes just six years after the company produced its first 1 million cars.
The result marks the halfway point of one of Elon Musk’s key goals for 2035. The company’s plan calls for a total of 20 million cars to be produced by that date. In addition, Tesla aims to gain 10 million Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscribers, produce 1 million humanoid robots, and put 1 million robo-taxis on the road.
However, Tesla has yet to reach the 2 million-car-per-year production level. The company’s sales in the United States fell 13% year-on-year in the second quarter of this year, and Tesla has recently been looking to grow in new markets such as Japan, Australia, and Lithuania.
Tesla currently has about 1.5 million FSD users. The robot and robo-taxis projects are still in the early stages of development. Meanwhile, Elon Musk is required to reach $400 billion in annual adjusted EBITDA by 2035 to receive his full bonus package.
China's BYD, one of Tesla's main competitors in electric vehicle production, has produced more than 17 million new energy vehicles so far. About half of this figure is hybrid models.
