Ellie Mertz has been appointed to the Netflix Board of Directors

On June 24, 2025, Netflix, Inc. announced the appointment of Ellie Mertz, Chief Financial Officer at Airbnb, to its Board of Directors. Mertz will also serve on the board’s audit committee. This appointment marks a significant milestone both for Netflix’s strategic direction and for Mertz, whose earlier career included key roles within the company.

Netflix Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters welcomed Mertz, highlighting her leadership at Airbnb and her in-depth understanding of Netflix from her previous tenure. They noted that her expertise as a finance leader at public companies will be instrumental as Netflix continues to drive innovation and engage global audiences.

Mertz expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, calling it a full-circle moment in her professional journey. She emphasized her longstanding respect for Netflix’s product and culture and said she’s excited to collaborate with the team to scale the business and continue delivering entertainment to viewers around the world.

As Airbnb’s CFO since March 2024, Mertz oversees global financial management, including planning, accounting, tax, treasury, and investor relations. Before joining Airbnb in 2013, she spent seven years at Netflix, where she rose to the role of Vice President of Finance.

In addition to her new role at Netflix, Mertz currently serves on the boards of DoorDash and Faire Wholesale. Her academic background includes a B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University in Science, Technology & Society and History, respectively, an M.I.A. from Columbia University, and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

This appointment is a meaningful return for Mertz — rejoining Netflix not just as a former team member, but now as a leader helping shape the company’s future from the boardroom.
