Meta has announced an update to Facebook’s dating platform, introducing a new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant. This feature is designed to help users refine their searches, find suitable profiles, and improve their own profile information.
With the AI assistant, users can set more specific criteria. For example, they could search for “a girl from Brooklyn working in technology” or get AI suggestions to make their profile more appealing.
Meta has also added a “Meet Cute” feature to reduce “swipe fatigue.” This function uses algorithms to suggest a “surprise match” to users each week.
Although Facebook Dating has grown 10% among users aged 18–29 over the past year, it still lags behind competitors like Tinder (50 million daily active users) and Hinge (10 million daily active users).
This move highlights the growing role of AI in the dating app market. Match Group, owner of Tinder and Hinge, partnered with OpenAI last year, investing over $20 million in AI. As a result, Tinder introduced AI-powered profile photo selection and matching tools, while Hinge launched AI features to improve users’ responses.
Other dating apps, such as Bumble, have also introduced similar AI functions. Some forecasts suggest that in the future, users may have personal “AI concierges” that interact with other people’s AI assistants to determine compatibility.
