Google DeepMind recruits Boston Dynamics’ former CTO to join its team

Google DeepMind has made a new personnel appointment as part of its efforts to expand its work in robotics. The company has hired Aaron Sanders, the former Chief Technology Officer of Boston Dynamics. According to Wired, Sanders will serve as Vice President of Hardware at DeepMind.

DeepMind’s CEO, Demis Hassabis, has shared interesting insights about the company’s future vision. According to him, the main goal is to transform the “Gemini” artificial intelligence model into a universal “operating system” for robots. The plan is to develop a system capable of controlling any robot, regardless of its physical structure or configuration. Sanders’ extensive experience may play a crucial role in achieving these ambitions; he had worked at Boston Dynamics since 2003, leading various complex projects, including the development of a six-legged amphibious robot, and left the company in the summer of 2025.

Although DeepMind has been conducting research in this field for many years, the recent successes of Chinese manufacturers have pushed the company to act more swiftly. Demis Hassabis noted that he was particularly impressed by the robots produced by China’s Unitree. He believes that robotics integrated with artificial intelligence will experience significant technological breakthroughs in the coming years.
