A significant part of cyber attacks against state institutions in Azerbaijan are organized through contractors and service provider companies. This was reported by Tural Mammadov, Deputy Head of the General Department of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Security, during his speech at the IV National Cybersecurity Forum.
According to him, some of the attacks recorded recently were carried out through the supply chain. Studies have shown that cybercriminals first enter the networks of companies cooperating with state institutions, and then use these trusted connections to target state information systems.
Tural Mammadov said that the level of cybersecurity of the country depends not only on the security preparedness of state institutions, but also on the companies providing services to them. He stressed that he hopes that the National Cybersecurity Agency will contribute to strengthening cyber defense standards in the private sector and increasing the capabilities of companies in this area.
