Google has announced the rollout of an AI-powered business calling feature to all users across the United States. Additionally, the company is enhancing Google Search’s AI Mode by activating the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and introducing advanced deep research capabilities.
The new business calling feature uses AI to call local businesses on behalf of users to gather information about services, pricing, and availability. The goal is to help users access information easily without having to make the calls themselves.
To use the service, users simply need to search for something like “pet groomers near me,” and they will see an option to “Have AI check pricing” in the results. The AI then asks questions about the pet type, required services, and preferred appointment times, providing offers from various businesses.
A Google spokesperson told TechCrunch that each call begins with a clear announcement that it is an automated system calling on behalf of a user. It’s worth noting that Google had previously launched a similar feature but faced criticism when users were misled into thinking they were speaking with a human. Since then, the company has ensured the AI clearly identifies itself as a robot during calls.
The business calling feature is being rolled out gradually to all users in the U.S., with higher call limits for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
Meanwhile, Google Search’s AI Mode allows users to ask complex questions. This mode is now powered by the Gemini 2.5 Pro model for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, excelling particularly in advanced reasoning, math, and coding tasks.
The new “Deep Search” functionality within AI Mode enables users to conduct thousands of queries simultaneously, generating comprehensive, well-sourced reports in minutes. This feature is useful for work, hobbies, studies, and major life decisions such as buying a home or financial analysis.
Since its launch earlier this year, Google has continuously improved AI Mode, positioning it as a strong competitor to services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Recent updates include voice conversation capabilities and AI-powered shopping features.
