Google launches Gemini app for macOS

Google has launched the official Gemini AI assistant app for macOS. The company announced this on its blog. The app is free for all Gemini users and supports macOS 15 and later.

The new app is equipped with keyboard shortcuts to increase ease of use. For example, the Option + Space combination opens a “mini-chat” window, and Option + Shift + Space opens a fully functional chat mode. Users can change these shortcuts in the settings.

One of the notable innovations of the Gemini app is the “see screen” function. By sharing a screenshot, the user can get an explanation from the AI about the main results on the diagram, for example.

In addition, the app supports image generation via Nano Banana, video creation with Veo, and other familiar functions. Sundar Pichai said that the number of these capabilities will increase in the future.

Recall that in January 2026, Apple confirmed that the updated Siri assistant would work on the basis of Gemini. According to the 9To5Mac portal, this update is expected to be introduced in iOS 27 and macOS 27 versions.
